Product Description
The Silver Britannia was first made in 1997. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, The Royal Mint has brought back the 1kg edition for 2027, giving silver buyers a single, impressive coin that holds a full kilo of silver.
At 100mm across, this coin shows off Philip Nathan's Britannia in remarkable detail. Highlights include:
- '30' wave privy mark: a one-year-only mark celebrating three decades of the Silver Britannia.
- Anniversary texture: the background includes the number 30.
- Security features: a latent image, surface animation, micro-text and tincture lines, designed to help protect against counterfeits.
The obverse carries King Charles III's official coinage portrait by Martin Jennings and the £500 face value. The coin weighs 1,005g in 999 fine silver.
The Royal Mint supplies this coin in a protective capsule, and that's how it comes to you.
Buying one large coin rather than many small ones can be a tidy way to hold silver, and a kilo coin is easy to store and keep track of.

Investing Information
VAT is charged at the standard rate on this coin. New silver coins and bars are not exempt from VAT in the UK, so the price you pay includes VAT.
It is, however, exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents. The 1kg Britannia is UK legal tender with a £500 face value, and UK legal tender coins are not subject to CGT. That can make a big difference on a coin of this size if silver prices rise.
The Britannia is one of the most recognisable silver coins in the UK, which helps when you come to sell. Gold Traders buys silver Britannias, in person at our branches or by post.
We're glad to explain the tax facts, but we can't give personal financial advice. Please do your own research and talk to a professional adviser if needed before you invest.

Denomination Information
The Royal Mint introduced the Silver Britannia in 1997, ten years after the gold coin. It quickly became one of the UK's best-known silver bullion coins.
Over the years the range has grown. As well as the classic 1oz coin, The Royal Mint has made fractional coins and larger editions such as this 1kg coin, which returns to the bullion range for 2027.
The silver itself has changed too. Early coins were struck in Britannia silver (958 fine). Since 2013 they've been made in 999 fine silver, and in 2021 four security features were added.
The kilo coin brings all of this together on a much larger scale, combining legal tender status with a substantial weight of fine silver.
