About platinum
Platinum is a naturally white, dense metal prized for fine jewellery and investment. It's around 30 times rarer than gold, which is why it commands such a high price. Most platinum sold in the UK carries a hallmark confirming its purity, and this is what our buyers use to assess your items.
What platinum purities do we buy?
We accept all recognised platinum purities, including those you're unlikely to find listed elsewhere:
- 700 - Type B Thermocouple (leg 1)
- 850
- 870 - Type R Thermocouple
- 900 - Type S Thermocouple
- 940 - Type B Thermocouple (leg 2)
- 950 - the standard purity for UK hallmarked platinum jewellery
- 999 - used in investment bullion coins and bars
If your item doesn't appear to be hallmarked, don't worry. We'll test it on arrival and make you an offer based on the result.
Platinum jewellery
The most common items we receive are rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and brooches. Platinum is the metal of choice for high-end engagement and wedding rings, and many pieces are set with diamonds or other gemstones. We buy platinum jewellery in any condition - scratches, wear, or a broken clasp won't affect what we pay.
Platinum bullion coins and bars
We also buy platinum bullion coins and bars from all major mints, including The Royal Mint, Perth Mint, and the United States Mint. Platinum bullion is typically 999 purity and priced accordingly. Visit our Platinum Bullion Coins page for more detail and current prices.
Platinum scrap and industrial items
We buy less common forms of platinum too, including crucibles and laboratory equipment. See our Crucibles and Laboratory Scrap page, or just get in touch if you're not sure whether we'll accept what you have.
