Always check the price per gram before you sell

Here's the most useful tip we can give you. Before you accept any offer, from us or anyone else, make sure you know the price per gram you're being paid.

Some gold buyers make this hard to work out. They might show the live "spot" price in big letters, then quietly pay you a much smaller share of it. Others won't give a per gram rate at all, and only hand you a single lump-sum figure.

Three questions to ask any gold buyer

A fair buyer has nothing to hide. Ask these before you sell:

What price per gram are you paying for my carat of gold?
How does that compare to today's market price?
Will you show me the weight and the sums behind my offer?

If a buyer won't answer clearly, that's your sign to pause. We publish both the live market rate and the rate we actually pay, so you can compare before you commit.
