If you're selling your unwanted scrap gold, you may have ordered a free postal pack from Cash4Gold Online (cash4goldonline.co.uk). They advertise the "highest prices" and say they "will not be beaten on price". Before you accept their offer, take two minutes to check what your gold is genuinely worth.

Cash4Gold Online is, in its own words, part of the Cash4Gold-Now group. When Gold Traders tested Cash4Gold-Now, their first offer was £401 for gold with a spot value of £597.68. That's 67.1% of the true value, leaving the seller nearly £197 short. You can see the full results in our gold buyer price comparison, and read our separate Cash4Gold-Now price match page.

Cash4Gold Online price match guarantee

Cash4Gold Online promises to match any price offered by another online scrap gold buyer. To use it, you need written evidence of the other offer, including the date, the weight of the items, and the grade of metal.

That's exactly what our free tool on this page gives you. Enter the weight and purity of your gold, and we'll send you a written, dated valuation based on the rates we're genuinely paying right now.

There are a couple of things to be aware of before you rely on their guarantee:

  • Their terms say the matched price will be adjusted for any change in the gold price between the date of your written offer and the day they respond.
  • The guarantee applies to scrap gold. To be fair on the comparison, our valuation is based on our lowest scrap gold rates, with no extra added for coins with collector value or jewellery with resale value. Our rates are higher again for bullion.

So get your written quote from us on the day you speak to them, and ask them to confirm any matched price in writing. If they won't match it, ask for your items back and sell to us instead.

Cash4Gold Online calculator

Cash4Gold Online displays the daily gold spot price on its website, but that is not the rate they pay you. Their own site says the percentage they pay is "based on volume", and there is no calculator that tells you your actual payout before you post your gold in.

Our free calculator works the other way round. Enter the weight and carat of your gold below, and you'll get a clear valuation based on today's live market price, before you send anything anywhere.

Use it as your benchmark. If Cash4Gold Online offers less, you'll know straight away, and you'll have a written quote ready for their price match.

How much does Cash4Gold Online pay per gram?

Cash4Gold Online doesn't publish a clear price per gram for each gold purity. The spot prices shown on their website are the market rates, not the amount they pay you. They say the percentage you receive depends on the volume of gold you send.

The figure we can point to comes from testing the wider Cash4Gold-Now group: a first offer of 67.1% of the gold's spot value. As a general guide, a reputable buyer should pay at least 90% of spot.

We publish the prices we pay every day, alongside the live market rate, and you can check our 9ct gold price per gram right now. That way you know exactly what you'll receive before you sell.

Cash4Gold Online reviews

It's always worth reading reviews before you sell, but read them carefully. The customer testimonials on the Cash4Gold Online website are worth a closer look: several of them repeat the exact same wording under different names, which makes them hard to rely on.

Screenshots of duplicate reviews by different people

Their website also links to a Trustpilot profile for Cash4Gold-Now, the wider group they belong to, rather than a profile in the Cash4Gold Online name.

Whatever the score, a review usually reflects speed and service, not the price paid. Most people selling gold have no simple way to know what their items were truly worth on the day, so a happy review doesn't tell you they got a fair price. Always compare the actual figure against an independent quote.

Is Cash4Gold Online legit?

Cash4Gold Online is a trading name used by a real, registered company. Its own website states it is part of the Cash4Gold-Now group and a trading division of James Brooke Services Ltd, a UK company registered with Companies House (number 08864813), which is active.

Its website lists a trading address in Hatton Garden, London's jewellery district. The registered office of James Brooke Services Ltd is a separate address in St Johns Wood, London. There is no high street branch where you can sell your gold face-to-face, and you have to post your items in before you receive an offer.

It's also worth knowing that their terms allow acid testing, which can leave permanent staining or scratches on your items, and they state they are not liable for this. Being a registered company doesn't tell you whether you'll get a fair price, so we'd always suggest getting an independent written valuation first. If you'd rather sell in person, we have branches in Royal Wootton Bassett and Bodmin.

Watch out for Cash4Gold Online's fees

If you reject their offer, Cash4Gold Online says your items are returned free within 5 working days, which is fair. But their terms also set out a number of charges worth knowing about before you send anything:

  • If you send items back a second time and reject the offer again, a £15 admin charge applies.
  • Parcels containing less than 10 grams of gold, or items with no significant value, carry a £15 admin fee to be returned.
  • Packs with no precious metal carry a £15 handling fee for return.
  • Silver is only accepted alongside gold, and carries an admin fee for its return.
  • Choosing to be paid in cash by post costs £9.

Their terms also state that once you accept an offer, it's legally binding and irrevocable, as your gold may be sent to the refiners straight away. At Gold Traders, if you change your mind within 24 hours, we return your items free of charge. You can see exactly how our process works before you commit to anything.

Cash4Gold Online phone number

Cash4Gold Online lists its phone number as 0207 118 1848, a London landline, and its email as info@cash4goldonline.co.uk.

If you'd like a breakdown of an offer, ask for the weight, purity, and price per gram for each item. A reputable buyer should be happy to provide this. If they can't, we'd suggest asking for your items back.

Why we're campaigning for price transparency

Postal gold buyers are free to advertise the "highest prices" without publishing the rates they actually pay. That's because the UK's precious metals buying market has no consumer protection rules at all.

We believe that's wrong, and we're doing something about it. Gold Traders is leading a campaign calling on Parliament to regulate the precious metals buying market.

Among our proposals is mandatory price transparency before any transaction takes place. We also want every postal buying service to give sellers a specific written indication of the rate they can realistically expect to be paid, before they're asked to send their items, and to guarantee the free return of all items if an offer is declined.

None of this would change how we operate, because we already do it. We simply believe every seller deserves the same honesty, whoever they sell to.

Get a written quote before you accept

Cash4Gold Online is a trading name of James Brooke Services Ltd, a UK company registered with Companies House (number 08864813), which is active. It says it is part of the Cash4Gold-Now group. Being a registered company doesn't guarantee a good price, so we'd always suggest comparing their offer before you sell.

Cash4Gold Online's website states it is part of the Cash4Gold-Now group and a trading division of James Brooke Services Ltd (Companies House number 08864813). You can view the company record on the Companies House website.

According to its own website, Cash4Gold Online is part of the Cash4Gold-Now group. The two brands share the same group and their website links to a Cash4Gold-Now Trustpilot profile. You can read our separate Cash4Gold-Now price match page too.

Cash4Gold Online doesn't publish a price per gram, and the spot prices on their site are not the rate they pay. When Gold Traders tested the wider Cash4Gold-Now group, the first offer was 67.1% of the gold's spot value, below the 90% threshold we feel is fair.

No. Their website shows the daily spot price, but there is no calculator that tells you what they will actually pay before you send your gold. You can use our free calculator on this page instead, which gives you a live valuation based on today's gold price.

Read them carefully. Several of the testimonials on the Cash4Gold Online website repeat the same wording under different names, and their Trustpilot link points to a Cash4Gold-Now profile rather than one in their own name. A review reflects speed and service, not the price paid, so always compare any offer against an independent quote.

Yes. Their terms say that if you reject their first offer, your items are returned free within 5 working days. Be aware that resending items, parcels under 10 grams, and items with no significant value can each carry a £15 admin fee, and that once you accept an offer it is final.
