About Gold Traders
Gold Traders is a precious metals dealer founded in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, in 2008, by Jon White. Built on a straightforward principle - to pay fair prices, be honest about how things work, and make the whole process as simple as possible - the business has grown from a one-man operation into a team of 28 people across three businesses.
Today, Gold Traders operates branches in Royal Wootton Bassett and Bodmin, Cornwall, as well as a trusted nationwide postal service. We were named the 15th Fastest Growing Company in the South of England in the 2023 Fast Growth 50 index, and Jon was named Male Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2022 South West Business Awards.
We're also proud to be an Official Partner of The Royal Mint® - the only partner based in the South West of England.
Setting the standard for consumer protection
When Gold Traders launched in 2008, the precious metals buying industry had no formal accreditation and very little consumer protection. We decided to change that.
Gold Traders became the first precious metals company in the UK to achieve Trading Standards accreditation through the national Buy With Confidence scheme - a rigorous inspection of our entire operation from end to end. It's a standard we've maintained ever since, and one we're genuinely proud of.
We're also a member of the British Numismatic Trade Association (BNTA), which represents the interests of numismatic and precious metals dealers across the British Isles.

Our honest advice for getting the best value
Jon White has been helping people sell their gold, silver, and precious metals fairly since 2008. After observing people unknowingly accept poor prices from less transparent buyers, Jon built Gold Traders specifically to do things differently. His advice for anyone selling precious metals is straightforward.
Don't just compare gold companies on an upfront quote alone. Check our top tips for making sure you get the best value - with no nasty surprises.
If another company's quote seems too good to be true, talk to us about it. We can help to point out any hidden catches we know about. Don't always trust gold-buying comparison sites to help with your decision - they often only list companies who pay to advertise or pay affiliate commissions.
Always read the terms and conditions and customer reviews before you send in your items. Filter and read the 1-star reviews - they can paint a useful picture of how a company operates.
Keep an eye on the live pricing and make sure that if the price goes up on the day of receipt, so will your valuation. Most people are unsure exactly what they've got, so check there are no testing fees and that you understand the cost and process of getting your items returned before you send them in.
There should be no difference in price for hallmarked and non-hallmarked gold.
