About the Queen's Beasts Platinum Coins
The Queen's Beasts series takes its inspiration from one of the most memorable moments in modern British history: the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. For the occasion, sculptor James Woodford RA created 10 imposing heraldic figures - each representing a dynasty, kingdom, or noble house from British royal history - that lined the entrance to the Abbey as the Queen was crowned. Those 10 figures became known as the Queen's Beasts, and they now stand at Windsor Castle.
The Royal Mint launched its Queen's Beasts coin programme in 2016, releasing one or two new designs each year through to 2022 and immortalising each beast in gold, silver, and platinum. The platinum coins are the most limited of the three metals - struck in significantly smaller numbers than the gold or silver versions - which gives them a scarcity that investors and collectors both recognise.
The series was brought to a close with the Queen's Beasts Completer Coin in 2022, a special issue featuring all 10 heraldic beasts together on a single reverse design. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, the series took on a lasting commemorative significance that extends well beyond its investment credentials.
All 11 Queen's Beasts platinum coins are struck to .9995 fineness, weigh 1 troy oz, and carry a face value of £100 - making each one UK legal tender and exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

Collector Appeal and Complete Sets
Because the Queen's Beasts series is now closed, no new platinum coins will be added. This makes the complete 11-coin platinum set increasingly sought after among collectors - and it means individual coins from the series are unlikely to become easier to find over time.
Gold Traders buys individual coins and complete sets. We assess each coin separately and give you a full itemised breakdown, so you can choose to sell all, some, or just one.
Capital Gains Tax
Each Queen's Beasts platinum coin carries a £100 face value and is UK legal tender, making all 11 coins in the series exempt from Capital Gains Tax. This applies to individual coins and complete sets alike. See our British Platinum Coins page for more on CGT, and always confirm your personal position with a qualified tax adviser.
