About British silver bullion coins
The Silver Britannia is The Royal Mint’s flagship silver bullion coin. It was first struck in 1997 in .958 Britannia silver, and has been made in .999 fine silver since 2013.
The Royal Mint also makes other 1oz silver bullion coins, often in series that run for a few years. These include the Royal Arms and the Myths and Legends coins featuring Robin Hood and Little John.
Most of these coins have a face value of £2. Their real value comes from the silver they contain, which is worth far more.
Old British silver coins
If you have old pre-decimal coins, such as half crowns, florins or shillings, see our pre-decimal silver coins page. Coins dated 1946 or earlier contain silver.
