What affects the value of a silver bar?

A silver bar’s value depends on its weight, its purity and the live silver price. The brand doesn’t change our offer, so a bar from any refiner is worth the same to us.

Scratches, marks and tarnish don’t matter either. Silver naturally darkens over time, and this has no effect on the silver inside.

Silver bars and VAT

In the UK, VAT is charged when you buy a silver bar. When you sell, the price is based on the silver alone, so the VAT you paid isn’t returned. This is the same with every silver buyer.

UK silver coins, such as the Silver Britannia, are also bought with VAT, but they’re free from Capital Gains Tax because they’re legal tender.

No problem. We test all items using non-destructive methods like XRF (X-ray fluorescence) to verify purity and authenticity before making an offer. With larger-sized bars, we may need to drill a bar in certain instances, but we would discuss this with you prior to doing so.
