About the tola
The tola was the standard unit of weight in British India and remains in everyday use across India, Pakistan, Nepal and parts of the Middle East.
One tola is 11.6638 grams. That figure was fixed to three eighths of a troy ounce, which is why tola bars divide so neatly into ounce pricing.
The most commonly traded tola bar is the 10 tola bar, weighing 116.64 grams, often called a TT bar or biscuit. Single tola bars are smaller and more common as gifts.
Most tola bars are 999 fine, though some older bars are 995. The purity is usually stamped on the bar alongside the refiner's name.
