Product Description

If you're looking to hold a large amount of silver, a 100oz bar is one of the simplest ways to do it. You get 100 ounces of silver in one piece, with far fewer items to store than smaller bars or coins.

Every bar in this listing is pre-owned. It has had at least one previous owner, but the silver is exactly the same as in a new bar.

Why choose a 100oz silver bar?

  • 100 troy ounces (about 3.11kg) of silver, at least 999 fine
  • A large amount of silver in a single bar
  • Much less to store and keep track of than 100 separate 1oz bars
  • Sold under the VAT margin scheme

The bar we'll send

We send the best value 100oz bar we have in stock when you order. Our pre-owned 100oz bars come from a mix of recognised refiners, so the shape, finish and markings can vary. Every bar is stamped with its weight and purity, and many also carry a serial number.

Condition

Large silver bars are often handled and stored for many years. Yours may show surface marks, scratches or toning. These are cosmetic only and have no effect on the amount of silver in the bar.

Packaging

Some bars come to us in their original packaging, while others are loose. Either way, we pack your bar securely before it's sent.

Checked before sale

Our team checks every pre-owned bar before it goes on sale. If we can't verify a bar, we won't sell it.

Other sizes

Delivery Information

We send every order by Royal Mail Special Delivery, fully insured and tracked.

Order before 1pm, Monday to Friday, and we'll normally dispatch your bar the same day, subject to stock. Pre-owned stock changes often, and every bar is checked before it leaves us.

Because of its value, we may contact you to arrange payment by bank transfer before your bar is sent.

You can also collect. Choose 'Click & Collect' at checkout to avoid postage, and we'll keep your order at our Royal Wootton Bassett branch. We'll email you when it's ready. Please bring official photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence.

We take UK debit cards and bank transfers, but not credit cards.

We only supply customers in the UK.

Investing Information

VAT and the margin scheme

New silver bars in the UK carry VAT at the standard rate on the full price. These bars are pre-owned, so they're sold under the VAT margin scheme, and VAT only applies to our margin. On a bar this size, that can make a big difference to the price.

Capital Gains Tax

Silver bars aren't legal tender, so they're not exempt from Capital Gains Tax. You'd only pay CGT if you sold at a profit and your total gains for that tax year were above your annual allowance.

UK legal tender silver coins, such as our best value 1oz Silver Britannias, are exempt from CGT.

Things to think about

A 100oz bar is a large single item. If you want to sell part of your silver later, you'd need to sell the whole bar. Smaller bars or coins give you more flexibility, so it's worth thinking about how you might want to sell in the future.

Selling your bar

When you sell, the price will follow the silver price on the day. Gold Traders buys silver too, and you can check our current silver prices at any time.

Please note: we can explain the tax facts for this bar, but we can't give personal financial advice. Please do your own research, and speak to a qualified adviser if you need to, before you invest.

Denomination Information

How big is a 100oz bar?

One troy ounce is 31.1 grams, so a 100oz bar weighs about 3.11kg. That's a little over three bags of sugar, packed into a bar small enough to fit in one hand.

How 100oz bars are made

Most 100oz silver bars are cast. Molten silver is poured into a mould and left to cool, which gives the bar a chunky, rugged finish. Some refiners also make minted 100oz bars with a smooth, flat surface.

A trading-size bar

The 100oz bar is a standard size in the silver trade, especially in North America, where silver is measured in troy ounces. Its weight makes it easy to value against the silver price, which is quoted per troy ounce.

Why the 100oz size?

It suits buyers who want to hold a large amount of silver in as few pieces as possible. For comparison, a 1kg bar holds about 32 troy ounces, so a 100oz bar holds roughly three times as much.

A 100oz bar weighs 100 troy ounces, which is about 3.11kg. At 999 fine, it holds roughly 3.107kg of pure silver.

Large bars are usually made by pouring molten silver into a mould, which suits heavy bars well. This casting process gives them their chunky, rugged look.

You can pay by UK debit card or bank transfer. We don't accept credit cards, Amex or business payment cards. Because of the value of a 100oz bar, we may contact you to arrange payment by bank transfer before it's sent.

Collect your bar from our Royal Wootton Bassett branch once we've emailed you. Please bring official photo ID. Payment is by UK debit card or bank transfer, not credit card.

Some bars reach us in their original packaging and others are loose. Whichever it is, we pack your bar securely before it's dispatched.

Not on the full price. Pre-owned silver bars are sold under the VAT margin scheme, so VAT only applies to our margin. The price you see is the price you pay.

No. Silver bars aren't legal tender, so they don't qualify. CGT is only due if you sell at a profit and your total gains for that tax year are higher than your annual allowance.
