Mary Shelley's creature is back, and this time he's made of silver. The 2026 Frankenstein 1oz Silver Bullion Coin follows The Royal Mint's 2025 Count Dracula coin as the second release in its Gothic Horror series.
Frankenstein started life as a holiday challenge. During a stormy summer by Lake Geneva in 1816, Lord Byron asked his friends to each write a ghost story. Mary Shelley, then 18, came up with the tale of a scientist who builds a man and brings him to life.
The finished novel came out in 1818. Its creature never gets a name in the book, which is why the coin calls him Frankenstein's monster. Frankenstein is the name of his maker, Victor.
At 38.61mm across, the silver coin is wider than its gold partner, which gives William Webb's artwork more room. The monster fills the scene, with stitches across his skin and lightning bursting from the equipment that created him.
Around the edge you'll find the words FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER, the coin's weight and purity (1OZ 999 FINE SILVER) and the 2026 date. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III and the £2 face value.
Two security features help protect the coin against fakes:
The Royal Mint says no more than 50,000 of these silver coins may be issued. That's ten times the limit on the gold version, but it's still a fixed number for a bullion coin.
Each single coin is posted in a protective flip. Order 25 and they'll come in an original tube from The Royal Mint, and orders of 500 ship in a sealed monster box.
It's a simple way to add an ounce of fine silver to your holdings, with a design that tells one of the best-known stories ever written.
Every parcel goes out by Royal Mail. It's tracked all the way and fully insured until it reaches you.
When the coin is in stock, orders placed by 1pm on weekdays (Monday to Friday) leave us the same day.
Rather collect? Pick Click & Collect when you check out to save on postage. Your order will wait for you at our Royal Wootton Bassett branch, and we'll email you once it's ready. You'll need official photo ID, like a passport or driving licence, to pick it up.
Payment is by UK debit card or bank transfer. Credit cards aren't accepted. If you're buying a large quantity, such as a monster box, we may get in touch to arrange payment by bank transfer before your order is sent.
Please note that we can only supply customers in the UK.
VAT at the standard UK rate is charged on the 2026 Frankenstein 1oz Silver Bullion Coin. Unlike investment gold, new silver coins and bars aren't exempt from VAT in the UK.
Capital Gains Tax is a different story. The coin is UK legal tender with a £2 face value, and UK legal tender coins are exempt from CGT for UK residents. For anyone building up a larger stack of silver over time, that can be a useful advantage.
Silver coins from The Royal Mint are known and trusted by dealers throughout the UK, so they're easy to sell on. We buy silver coins ourselves, in person at our branches or through our postal service.
We can tell you the facts about how tax applies to bullion, but we can't advise you personally. Do your own research, and talk to a professional adviser if you're unsure, before you decide to invest.
The Royal Mint uses a £2 face value for its 1oz silver bullion coins, the same as on the Silver Britannia. Nobody buys this coin to spend it. The face value confirms it's UK legal tender, while its market value follows the price of silver.
A Royal Proclamation made at Buckingham Palace on 3 June 2026 authorised the coin. It fixes the standard weight at 31.21 grams, the diameter at 38.61mm and the silver at no less than 999 parts per thousand pure.
The Gothic Horror series opened in 2025 with Joel Iskowitz's Count Dracula. The Frankenstein's monster coin is the second release and keeps the same 1oz format and security features.
Like other themed bullion coins from The Royal Mint, it sells for the value of its silver plus a premium. Buyers get a recognised, legal tender silver coin with a design that stands out from everyday bullion.
As an Official Partner of The Royal Mint, Gold Traders (UK) Ltd is an authorised distributor of its bullion coins and bars. We're the only partner of The Royal Mint in the South West, and our new stock, this coin included, comes direct from the mint with its authenticity guaranteed.
Prefer pre-owned? We stock that too, and every piece is tested and authenticated in-house before we offer it for sale.
