Product Description
At the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, ten heraldic beasts stood guard at the entrance to Westminster Abbey. Sculpted by James Woodford RA, they inspired The Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts bullion range, which began in 2016.
About the Yale of Beaufort
The Yale of Beaufort is one of the most fantastical of the Queen's Beasts.
It looks something like a goat or antelope, with boar-like tusks, a gold-spotted coat and a large set of horns.
The design
Jody Clark shows the yale standing proudly on the Beaufort portcullis.
The obverse shows Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the £25 face value. The Yale of Beaufort arrived in 2019, alongside the Falcon of the Plantagenets.

Where the range came from
The ten Queen's Beasts statues were sculpted by James Woodford RA for the 1953 coronation. Each beast stands for a strand of the Queen's royal ancestry.
The bullion sizes
The beasts were struck as 1oz gold, 1/4oz gold and 2oz silver bullion coins. 10oz silver and 1oz platinum editions were added, often dated a year after the first release.
A first for UK bullion
The Royal Mint describes the 2016 Lion of England as the first official two-ounce UK bullion coin.
