Quarter Sovereign

How much is a quarter Sovereign Worth Today?

Today (5th October 2025), we value a quarter Sovereign at £168.16.

The Quarter Sovereign, minted since 2000, is the most compact bullion package from The Royal Mint's Sovereign series. Therefore, it is the most affordable, while retaining the quality and detail investors have come to expect despite its smaller size.

Investors favour the Quarter Sovereign when looking to invest in gold with less exposure, when seeking to obtain a specific amount, or when beginning their precious metals investment journey. We believe the Quarter Sovereign is quality gold bullion at its punchiest and most accessible best.

Due to demand, Gold Traders will pay competitive rates for your Quarter Sovereign coins. If you're seeking a fair and informed sale with no hidden fees, then get started with our online claim form.

Common Designs Of The Quarter Sovereign

As with higher Sovereign denominations, the most common reverse design is the work of Benedetto Pistrucci: his neoclassical St George and the Dragon sculpture. Being minted only from the year 2009, monarchs prior to Elizabeth II on the obverse side will not feature. In this way, if your coin is dated prior to 2009 it may be a different denomination such as the Half Sovereign.

The three most common obverse depictions on the Quarter Sovereign are: Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, her penultimate definitive effigy; Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, the final portrait of her reign; Martin Jennings' King Charles III, his first definitive bust as monarch.

Which Quarter Sovereigns Are Worth The Most?

The good news is that Gold Traders will pay our best rate for the intrinsic gold content of your Quarter Sovereign, regardless of scratches, discolouring, and age.

Being only minted in the 21st century, the typical monarchs and dates associated with valuable Sovereign coins do not apply to the Quarter denomination. However, numerous Quarter Sovereigns enjoy specifications with collectable twists as well as strict, demand-inducing issue limits.

A clear example lies in the coin's finish. While usually struck to The Royal Mint's uncirculated bullion standard, some Quarter Sovereigns, often matched with a limited mintage, are struck to collectable proof quality. A handful also bear special designs or a heavy-strike piedfort finish.

It is, then, a good idea to check which Quarter Sovereign you are looking to sell. This allows you to proceed with all the facts, and prevents disreputable gold dealers from paying investment price for collector's quality.

This is why we have created a new site: Gold Sovereign Expert. A handy free tool is included, enabling you to determine the rarity an value of any Sovereign across the range. If your Quarter Sovereign is worth significantly more than its bullion market value, we think you deserve to know!

The Quarter Sovereign's Specification

Quarter Sovereigns are the smallest official Sovereign in the range, with a diameter of 13.50 millimetres. In line with its peers the coin is struck in 22ct gold, which is 91.67% pure in its composition. Combining these factors produces a 1.99 gram coin inclusive of 1.83 grams of pure gold content, or 0.059 Troy Oz.

Our in-house numismatists will authenticate your Quarter Sovereign prior to the sale, either meeting you in person or receiving your gold through our postal service. Upon mutual agreement, the money could reach your account in as little as 24 hours.
