Specification Of The Five Sovereign Set
While, as above, variance can be seen in design and 'finishing touches', all complete Sovereign five coin sets share several specifications.
For instance, each coin is struck in 22ct gold. This is an alloy of 91.67% fineness and has been used for the Sovereign since its reintroduction in 1817. The result is a combined total of 64.07 grams of pure gold across the entire set. While intended for the collector's market, this amount of pure gold - 2.05 troy ounces - is far from a disappointing intrinsic bullion value!
The obverse design your coins bear will generally depict the definitive coinage bust of the ruling monarch. Given the recent introduction of the five Sovereign set, Elizabeth II is present on most existing examples. Her final appearance as monarch is found in 2022's five-coin set, struck to mark her Platinum Jubilee with a special reverse design. 2023 and 2024, however, saw Charles III Quintuple - Quarter Sovereign sets produced, with no doubt more to come featuring The Late Queen's son.
With variation among design, issue limit, privy seals, and mint marks it can be difficult to pin down the type and value of your set yourself. If required, our in-house numismatists will happily talk you through your coins, ensuring your involvement and understanding throughout any possible sale.
