About this product
A compact piece of investment-grade gold from Britain's original maker. The Royal Mint's 5g Secure Britannia minted bar is struck in 999.9 fine gold and sealed in tamper-evident packaging. It carries Jody Clark's modern Britannia with advanced visual security so you can verify authenticity at a glance. Small enough for gifting; serious enough for stacking. And yes, VAT-exempt in the UK as investment gold. Dimensions are pocket-friendly without feeling insubstantial, which is exactly the point for a 5-gram bar.
Read moreThe Secure Britannia range brings coin-level security to gold bars. On the obverse you'll see Britannia in her Corinthian helmet, trident in hand and Union-flag shield at the ready. Rotate the bar in the light and three features come alive: a latent image that shifts between padlock and trident, surface animation that creates rolling waves behind Britannia, and crisp micro-text reading DECUS ET TUTAMEN ("an ornament and a safeguard"). These aren't gimmicks; they're engineered with sub-micron precision to make counterfeiting far harder and visual checks, frankly, much easier.
Each bar is sealed in a robust assay blister with its own unique serial number, plus packaging security (UV watermark, QR code, and a tamper-evident seal). The bar itself measures approximately 23.2 x 14.2 mm with a thickness around 1.2 mm - a neat, carryable format that still feels like "real" bullion in hand. Gold content is 5 grams (c. 0.1608 troy oz) of 24-carat, guaranteed by The Royal Mint.
Whether you're starting a position, cost-averaging, or picking a meaningful gift that's more than symbolic, the 5g Secure Britannia strikes a balance: low entry weight, high brand trust, and quick resale potential through recognised dealers. Perhaps not the lowest premium per gram compared with larger bars, but that's the trade-off for flexibility and liquidity.

Britannia is older than Britain's modern coinage, first adopted on Roman coins, later revived by Charles II, and since then a constant emblem of strength and maritime confidence. The Royal Mint expanded Britannia from coins into bullion bars, and in line with the 2021 upgrades to Britannia coins, introduced three visual security features to the bar range: latent imagery, animated backgrounds and micro-inscriptions. The idea is simple: if you can check a note or passport in the light, why not a gold bar? It's heritage with engineering behind it.
