British Britannia Quarter Ounce £25 Gold Coin
We Buy The £25 Quarter Britannia
A key fractional denomination in this premium gold bullion family, the Quarter Britannia enjoys the detail, security, and demand from investors and collectors all while offering a lower price point than its larger siblings. The Royal Mint's Quarter Britannia sits in the middle of the denominational range currently struck, meaning this UK gold coin strikes a great balance between accessibility and value.
For this reason, Gold Traders are happy to buy your £25 Quarter Britannia at our best rate - with no hidden fees and transparency throughout your deal. Ready to sell now? Start simply by filling out our concise online claim form.
Specification Of The Quarter Britannia
As with the rest of the 'original' denominations, each struck yearly since 1987, a shift in composition is present. Quarter Britannias struck from 2013 onwards have a fineness of .999 (24ct) whereas, mirroring the Sovereign at the time, those from previous mintages are struck in 22ct gold. Secondly, the non-gold content from 1987 - 2012 is generally copper, whereas silver completes the gross weight for Britannias struck from 2013.
Don't worry if your Quarter Britannia is one or the other: Gold Traders currently pay the same for each specification, as the intrinsic gold content is 1/4 troy ounce regardless of mintage year. Do be wary of gold dealers who offer less for the pre-2013 editions on the dishonest judgement that the 22ct coins are less valuable on the bullion market!
The compact Quarter Britannia holds a 22.00 millimetre diameter, within which lies 0.25 troy ounce of pure gold, equal to 7.77 grams of the precious metal. While a face value of £25 is given, this is merely reflective of the coin's legal tender status and is a nominal figure - the precious metal value is far higher.

Design: Who Is Britannia?
Britannia, a warrior goddess symbolic of Great Britain, has represented multiple aspects of the island nation since the boots of the Roman Empire first stood on the beaches of Kent. The qualities and fierceness of their westernmost province soon became personified by the powerful and regal Lady Britannia and she remains a recognisable figure today not least due to her presence on coins such as the Quarter Britannia.
Many now equate Britannia to the maritime dominance of the navy during the British Empire and, indeed, this is a common design theme in the Britannia coin range. She is often seen wearing a Corinthian helmet, bringing her in line with the might of Rome and Ancient Greece and their eminent goddesses. Likewise, she is commonly sculpted bearing a Poseidon-like trident and Union shield.
While multiple reverse designs have been used since 1987 (the most common being Philip Nathan's standing Britannia) the obverse has remained constant in being the definitive monarchal portrait of the mintage year. This means most Quarter Britannias will bear Elizabeth II, however subsequent releases hold Charles III in his first definitive effigy.
The story of Britannia and the quality upheld by The Royal Mint in this series is one collectors are happy to buy into. This means your coin, if of exceptional quality or a limited design, may be worth more than on the purely investment market. Our in-house experts, based in our Wiltshire office, will inspect your coin thoroughly and keep you informed as to our best price.
