About this product

Our best value pre-owned 1/10oz Gold Britannia bullion coins are an affordable way to start or expand a gold portfolio. Each coin contains exactly one-tenth of a troy ounce of fine gold, struck by The Royal Mint to the highest bullion standard. These coins come from the secondary market, carefully checked and guaranteed authentic, but offered at a lower premium than newly minted pieces. Dated 2013 onwards. Dates and designs vary, though all deliver the same intrinsic gold content and investment security. For many investors, this smaller fractional size strikes the perfect balance between flexibility and affordability.

Product Description

The 1/10oz Gold Britannia has become a popular entry point into UK bullion. Introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987 as part of the wider Britannia range, fractional coins allow investors to access the same trusted design in a size that is easier to trade or liquidate. Our pre-owned "best value" option means you'll receive coins selected from our current stock on an "our choice" basis. This could mean a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III, depending on the year, and while the exact design of Britannia may differ, the gold weight and purity remain constant.

Pre-owned bullion may display light handling marks or minor signs of age. These don't affect value or authenticity, and many collectors even enjoy the variety of designs and finishes that emerge across different years of issue. Investors, however, usually focus on what matters most: the fact that every coin contains 0.1 troy ounce of fine gold, with the assurance that it was produced by The Royal Mint, one of the world's most respected mints.

Investing Information

Gold Britannia coins, regardless of size, are highly regarded by UK investors for two key reasons. Firstly, they are VAT-free when purchased as investment gold. Secondly, because they are legal tender in the United Kingdom, they are exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT). This means that any profits realised upon disposal are free from this levy, an important consideration for larger portfolios.

As always, we must emphasise that we do not provide financial advice. We encourage all customers to conduct their own research and, if necessary, speak to a professional adviser before making investment decisions.

Denomination Information

The Britannia series was launched in 1987, reviving an ancient symbol of Britain that dates back to Roman times. The standing Britannia with trident and shield, created by sculptor Philip Nathan, quickly became one of the most recognised bullion designs in the world. Over the years, The Royal Mint has issued fractional versions - including the 1/2oz, 1/4oz, and 1/10oz—to give investors greater flexibility.

Earlier fractional Britannias were struck in 22 carat gold, but since 2013 all gold Britannias are struck in 24 carat (.9999) fine gold. This shift brought them in line with other global bullion favourites like the Canadian Maple Leaf. The 1/10oz coin, with its £10 face value, is particularly attractive to new investors who want exposure to gold but in smaller increments. Its modest size also makes it easy to store, gift, or trade when needed.
