About this product
Our Best Value 1oz Silver Britannia coins are the simplest and most cost-effective way to invest in pure silver. Each contains one troy ounce of 999 fine silver, struck by The Royal Mint, and comes from our mixed-date stock - any year from 2013 to the present. Coins are supplied loose and may show light handling marks from the minting and distribution process, but all meet the exact bullion standard. As UK legal tender, these coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax, and because they are pre-owned, they qualify for the VAT margin scheme, meaning extra savings for investors.

The Britannia series is one of The Royal Mint's flagship bullion ranges. Introduced in gold in 1987, the silver Britannia joined the line-up in 1997 (originally in proof form) and entered full bullion production in 1998. For the first 15 years, silver Britannias were struck in 958 "Britannia silver," but from 2013 onwards, the fineness was increased to 999, aligning them with other global silver bullion coins.
The obverse of these coins will feature either the late Queen Elizabeth II or His Majesty King Charles III, depending on the year of issue. Portraits have changed over time, but all bear the £2 face value - a formal marker of their legal tender status.
On the reverse, Britannia herself stands as the enduring personification of the United Kingdom, most famously in Philip Nathan's 'standing Britannia' design, holding a trident and shield against a gusting wind. Other reverse variations appear in certain years, keeping the series fresh and appealing to collectors as well as investors.
Because these are Best Value coins, they're sold based purely on silver content, not collector rarity. This means your order may include coins with different portraits or designs, and possibly duplicates if you buy multiples.
All orders are dispatched via Royal Mail, with tracking and insurance appropriate to the value of the order. Delivery is typically 3 to 5 working days, subject to stock availability. We ship to UK addresses only.
Customers are also welcome to collect in person from our Royal Wootton Bassett office - simply bring official photo ID (passport or driving licence) and proof of address dated within the last 3 months.
1oz Silver Britannias are a highly liquid way to hold physical silver. Each contains exactly 31.103 grams (1 troy ounce) of 999 fine silver, making them instantly recognisable and easy to trade worldwide.
As UK legal tender, they are exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT). Because these Best Value coins are pre-owned, sales fall under the VAT margin scheme, so VAT is only payable on our margin rather than the full price - a significant benefit for UK buyers.
Their affordable price point compared to gold coins makes them ideal for first-time bullion investors, while their strong secondary market appeal and changing designs add a collectable dimension. However, as with all precious metals, values can fluctuate, so we recommend that all customers do their own research before investing.
The £2 silver Britannia has become the most recognised British silver bullion coin on the market. Its status as legal tender, combined with 999 fine silver purity, ensures global recognition and trust among both investors and dealers.
The Britannia figure itself has a far older history, appearing on British coinage since Roman times and evolving with each new era. Since 1997, the Silver Britannia series has showcased different artistic interpretations - from classical standing poses to intricate modern designs - adding visual interest to what is primarily an investment product.
