Product Description

The 2026 quarter-ounce Silver Britannia continues The Royal Mint's legacy of striking coins that blend heritage and innovation. The reverse once again features Philip Nathan's celebrated Standing Britannia, her flowing robes and trident symbolising strength and maritime heritage. Around her, four intricate security features - micro-engraved wave patterns, a latent image that shifts from trident to padlock, tincture lines across the Union flag shield, and a micro-lettered border reading Decus et Tutamen - all serve to safeguard authenticity.

The obverse bears Martin Jennings' uncrowned effigy of King Charles III, accompanied by the coin's denomination and the 2026 year date. Each coin contains 7.78 grams (¼ troy ounce) of 999 fine silver, struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard.

Compact, tradable, and easy to store, these smaller Britannias provide flexibility for investors building a diversified precious-metal portfolio. Their status as legal-tender UK coins makes them exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT), a major advantage for UK-based buyers seeking long-term value.

Coins are supplied individually in protective flips, while orders of 19 coins are shipped in original tubes from The Royal Mint for convenient bulk storage.

Delivery Information

If placed before 1 p.m., all orders are dispatched the same day via Royal Mail with full tracking and insurance. Delivery is typically the next business day, subject to availability.

We ship within the UK only. Customers may also choose to collect in person from our Royal Wootton Bassett office. Please bring a photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof of address, such as a recent utility bill, bank statement, or council tax bill.

Investing Information

As a UK legal-tender coin, the 2026 quarter oz Silver Britannia is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT), making it particularly appealing for private investors.

However, as this is a new silver bullion coin, purchases are subject to VAT at the standard 20% rate.

Silver Britannias are highly liquid, widely recognised, and easily traded in the UK and worldwide. Their purity and consistent design make them a benchmark for small-denomination silver investment.

Please note that Gold Traders cannot offer financial advice. We recommend all customers undertake their own research before making investment decisions.

Denomination Information

The Silver Britannia series first appeared in 1997 and has since become The Royal Mint's flagship silver bullion coin. Over the years, the design has evolved to reflect the spirit of modern Britain while retaining the timeless strength of Britannia - the female embodiment of the nation.

The 2026 release continues the design direction introduced in 2021, when advanced security features were incorporated to protect investors and collectors from counterfeiting. Britannia herself has appeared on coins since Roman times, but her modern interpretation by artist Philip Nathan remains the definitive image - poised, commanding, and unmistakably British.

Fractional issues like the quarter-ounce Britannia offer accessibility for investors seeking to accumulate silver steadily without the cost of full-ounce pieces, maintaining the same artistry and assurance in a smaller form.
