About this product
The 2026 Gold Half Sovereign marks a new chapter in Britain's most enduring gold coin series. Struck by The Royal Mint, this forthcoming release continues the proud Sovereign tradition while introducing the same technological advances and alloy refinements that define the 2026 range. Crafted in 22-carat gold and returning to the classic yellow-gold tone last seen more than two decades ago, the 2026 Half Sovereign blends history, precision, and innovation in one elegant coin. Expected for release in late 2025, it represents both a return to heritage and a step into a more secure future for collectors and investors alike.

Product Description
Smaller in size but equally rich in legacy, the Half Sovereign has always embodied the perfect balance between affordability and prestige. The 2026 bullion edition continues that story - meticulously crafted to the same exacting standards as its full-sized counterpart, but with a 50 pence face value and proportionally reduced gold content.
According to the Royal Proclamation published in The Gazette (Notice 4874355), the new Half Sovereign retains the series' long-established dimensions, purity, and reverse design. Each coin will feature the official effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings, accompanied by the inscription "CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF" and, for the first time in Sovereign history, a latent image - a subtle, light-shifting security feature engraved into the design.
On the reverse, Benedetto Pistrucci's immortal St George and the Dragon returns once again, accompanied by microtext reading "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE", the historic motto of the Order of the Garter. Together, these innovations create the most secure Sovereign series ever struck, while keeping faith with two centuries of tradition.
The 2026 range also sees a significant change in alloy composition, moving away from the rose-gold tint that characterised Sovereigns since 2000. By restoring a touch of silver to the 22-carat mix, The Royal Mint has reintroduced the bright yellow tone of historic issues - a shift already widely welcomed by collectors.
Compact, beautifully made, and globally recognised, the Half Sovereign remains a highly tradeable investment coin. With its smaller size and lower entry cost, it appeals equally to those beginning their bullion journey and to seasoned investors diversifying into fractional gold.

Denomination Information
Introduced alongside the modern Sovereign in 1817, the Half Sovereign has long been admired for its fine proportions and precise detail. Originally struck for circulation, it became an enduring favourite with investors who valued its smaller format and intrinsic link to Britain's monetary history.
Its design, featuring St George and the Dragon, has come to symbolise strength and integrity across two centuries of British coinage. The 2026 issue continues that heritage - minted in traditional yellow gold and enhanced with contemporary security, reaffirming the Half Sovereign's place as one of the most recognisable small-denomination gold coins in the world.
