First released in 1987, the Britannia series quickly became a cornerstone of modern bullion. For 2025, The Royal Mint continues to blend centuries of tradition with cutting-edge innovation.
The reverse of the coin carries Philip Nathan's renowned depiction of Britannia: a timeless figure standing strong with shield, trident and olive branch. More than just a classical design, Britannia is also a symbol of Britain's enduring stability and maritime strength. Around the border runs the Latin motto Decus et Tutamen - "an ornament and a safeguard", a phrase that captures both the coin's decorative appeal and its role in protecting wealth.
To this artistry, The Royal Mint has added a set of security devices that make the Britannia one of the most advanced bullion coins on the market:
- Latent image: shifts between a trident and a padlock depending on the angle, representing naval heritage and security.
- Surface animation: flowing background waves that move as the coin tilts.
- Micro-text: precision engraving providing both decoration and protection against counterfeiting.
- Tincture lines: fine detailing within Britannia's shield, emphasising the Union Flag.
The obverse features Martin Jennings' uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by the £10 face value. Struck in 999.9 fine gold (24 carat), the coin contains one-tenth of a troy ounce, around 3.11 grams, of pure gold.
Delivery Information
Orders are dispatched via Royal Mail with full tracking and insurance included. Orders placed before 1pm, Monday to Friday are often dispatched the same day. We deliver to UK addresses only. Customers may also choose to collect in person from our Royal Wootton Bassett office, providing valid photo identification and proof of address. If you choose our 'Click and Collect' service, we will notify you when your package is ready for collection.
