Product Description
The 2025 1oz Silver Britannia is The Royal Mint's flagship silver bullion coin, and remains one of the most popular ways to own investment-grade physical silver in the UK.
Each coin is struck in 999 fine silver, weighing precisely 31.103 grams (1 troy ounce). The reverse features Philip Nathan's classic depiction of Britannia: helmeted, windswept, standing guard with trident and shield. The image has become a symbol of British reliability, and on the bullion coin, it's also a mark of trusted purity.
What sets the Silver Britannia apart isn't just the metal. Since 2021, The Royal Mint has incorporated four advanced security features into the design: a surface animation that mimics the movement of waves, micro-engraved lines for texture, tincture lines in the Union Flag, and a latent image that shifts from padlock to trident as the viewing angle changes. These features help deter counterfeiting and set the Britannia apart in an increasingly competitive bullion market.
The obverse carries the definitive coinage portrait of King Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings. As of 2025, this is the second year the Silver Britannia has featured Charles's effigy, continuing the transition from Queen Elizabeth II.
Coins are available individually, in tubes of 25, or in sealed 'monster boxes' of 500. Where possible, orders of 25+ may be supplied in original mint tubes.
Whether you're building a position in silver or giving a future-proof gift, the 2025 Britannia offers trusted weight, recognised value, and historic elegance.

Investing Information
While silver does not benefit from VAT exemption like gold, it remains a popular choice among investors for its affordability and potential growth. The 2025 Silver Britannia is subject to VAT at the standard UK rate, but it's still regarded as a practical way to hold physical silver in a trusted, recognisable format.
Each coin is struck by The Royal Mint to bullion standard and is classified as UK legal tender with a face value of £2, though its intrinsic value lies in its fine silver content, not its nominal denomination.
As always, we recommend conducting your own research or seeking independent financial advice before investing in precious metals. We do not offer financial advice.

Denomination Information
Introduced in 1997, the Silver Britannia has grown into a mainstay of the UK bullion market. In its early years, coins were produced in .958 fineness, a nod to British sterling standards. But since 2013, the Silver Britannia has been struck in .999 fine silver, aligning with international bullion norms.
The image of Britannia, a female personification of Britain, dates back to Roman times but was first used on British coins during the reign of Charles II. Over time, her depiction has evolved, but the symbolism remains constant: strength, maritime dominance, and national identity.
The 2025 edition continues this legacy, pairing time-honoured imagery with anti-counterfeit technology that sets a new standard for modern bullion.
