About this product

The 2025 1/4oz Silver Britannia offers a smaller and more flexible way to invest in UK silver, and it does so with a design that feels reassuringly familiar. Many buyers choose this denomination because it sits at an easy price point, perhaps making it a natural step for those building a position gradually. It retains all the usual refinements of the series, including the intricate security features that have become closely associated with the Britannia name. Despite its compact size, it still feels like a complete expression of the range, which is why it remains one of the most popular fractional silver coins each year.

Product Description

The 2025 quarter ounce Silver Britannia continues The Royal Mint's long-running bullion series, first introduced in silver in 1997. This version features the classic standing Britannia design by Philip Nathan, a composition that has remained a staple of modern UK bullion for decades. Although this motif is familiar, its subtle changes in finish and surface texture mean collectors and investors still pause to look closely. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.

Each coin contains one-quarter of a troy ounce of 999 fine silver. For many investors, that combination, legal tender status alongside high purity, provides a reassuring sense of consistency. Of course, the fractional format also adds day-to-day practicality. Some people plan long term holdings, others simply like the option of purchasing smaller quantities more often, and this size makes that easier.

The 2025 release continues the enhanced security refinements introduced in recent years, which is perhaps why the range has become so widely trusted. The latent padlock and trident effect, the micro-engraved wave patterns, and the fine line details across Britannia's shield all work together to help discourage counterfeiting. They also add a surprising amount of visual depth when viewed under angled light.

Coins will be supplied individually in protective coin flips, or in tubes and boxes when purchased in larger quantities. All items are sourced directly through our official partner channels with The Royal Mint.

Denomination Information

The 1/4oz Silver Britannia is one of the youngest denominations in the wider Britannia family, yet it has quickly developed a strong following. Britannia herself first appeared on UK bullion coins in gold in 1987 and expanded into silver a decade later. Over time, the series has gained a reputation for combining national symbolism with technical sophistication.

The standing Britannia image, holding shield and trident, traces its origins to Roman Britain but has been reinterpreted many times. Philip Nathan's 1987 version became so closely associated with the modern series that it is now considered the definitive presentation. Fractional coins, such as this one, follow the same artistic lineage, providing buyers with access to the full design despite their smaller format.

Today, Britannia bullion remains one of the most recognisable products issued by The Royal Mint, supported by the UK Government's guarantee of weight and purity. The quarter-ounce size, in particular, offers a more measured approach to buying physical silver while still carrying all the hallmarks of the larger versions.
