The Queen's Beasts series was introduced by The Royal Mint in 2016 and consists of ten designs, each representing a heraldic beast associated with the lineage of Queen Elizabeth II. The White Lion of Mortimer was the eighth release in the programme, issued in 2021. As with the other 10oz coins in the series, it contains ten troy ounces of 999.9 fine silver and is struck to the Mint's bullion standard.
The reverse, designed by Jody Clark, depicts the White Lion standing upright and supporting a shield. The shield includes the rose en soleil, a heraldic motif linked to Edward IV and the House of Mortimer. The background incorporates a chainmail-style texture that provides definition and improves resistance to the visual impact of minor surface marks. The inscriptions include the coin's weight, fineness and year of issue.
The obverse carries Jody Clark's fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The monetary denomination of ten pounds is displayed around the border, along with the standard legend.
