About this product
Our Best Value Pre-Owned 1oz Gold Britannia Coins (24 carat) are an efficient way to invest in pure gold bullion. Since 2013, The Royal Mint has struck Britannias in 999.9 fine gold, each containing exactly one troy ounce of the precious metal. These coins are supplied on a mixed-date basis from our available stock and provided in protective coin flips. Condition is bullion-grade: coins may show small marks from handling, but all are guaranteed genuine and contain their full weight in gold.
Read moreThe Gold Britannia underwent a major change in 2013 when The Royal Mint shifted from 22ct to 24ct production. From that year onwards, Britannias have been struck in .9999 fine gold, weighing 31.21 grams in total, with 31.10 grams of pure gold content.
Modern Britannias also benefit from advanced anti-counterfeiting features, introduced in 2021. These include a latent image that shifts between a trident and a padlock, surface animation on the background waves, micro-engraved text, and enhanced detailing on Britannia's shield.
Our pre-owned 24ct Britannias are supplied on a best value, mixed-date basis. You may receive a coin with Queen Elizabeth II's portrait or His Majesty King Charles III, depending on availability. The reverse generally carries Philip Nathan's iconic standing Britannia, although The Royal Mint has occasionally issued alternate depictions.

The Britannia series has evolved since its 1987 debut, but its enduring symbol of national identity remains unchanged. From 2013, the transition to 24ct gold aligned the coin with international bullion standards, placing it alongside the Maple Leaf and Kangaroo in purity terms.
In 2021, The Royal Mint further enhanced the coin's appeal by adding cutting-edge security features, making the Britannia one of the most secure bullion coins in the world. With portraits now updated to feature King Charles III, the Britannia continues to mark important chapters in Britain's numismatic history.
