Coin Collecting 101

Coin collecting has been a popular hobby since coins first came into circulation. There is documentation of Augustus Caesar giving coins as favors. The collecting of coins for artistic value started around the 14th century, and has steadily been growing. These days collecting coins is done as an investment and is based on intrinsic values perceived by collectors. Like stamps, coin collecting usually starts with someone seeing a coin that they find interesting or pretty, and grows from there.
